Squid Games In Review: 07/07/08 & 07/08/08
Monday 07/07/08: Rocked hard as usual, duh. MONICA was a superstar not only for a killer right field catch but also for the dozen Squid-colored cupcakes that accompanied her to the park. KRUKKER, earlier lamenting his lack of a hit in the past several weeks, slugged a homer over the left field players later in the game, only to take a nasty dive between 3rd and home, and to be thrown out at the plate as a result! Another result is, it earned him the gameball along with the nickname “Big Muddy.” Pictures were taken, but are not currently available. Anyway, this turn of events unseated McDOOFUS‘s stolen homerun of last year at ToGro for second-most heartbreaking event in Squid history (for my money). You can read about that list-topper here.
Tuesday 07/08/08:RAINED OUT! However, we relocated to the nearby Von Humboldt South Pavilion to wait out the storm and rock some Jungle Juice anyway. Some Monday-nighters came on out, some non-Squids came on out, Squidbox was in full effect, Double-J was being poured down peoples’ throats at an alarming rate, umpires Terri, Tim, and Chris rocked with us, and a good time was had by all. Sorry if ya let a little RAIN deter ya from comin’! I gave the game ball to CASSIDY of course, accompanied by a speech (of sorts), which I actually crafted beforehand (I never do that, in case you couldn’t tell), and which contained the following points regarding her tenure as a Squid:
-She is a staunch protector of the Squid spirit
-She is a warrior of both infield and outfield
-She is a stalwart utility player of unparalleled skill
-She has been yelled at by umpires for smoking on the field
-She is your friend and mine, one heck of a cool lady, and the lucky charm of the Squid softball franchise
Awww shucks…shut up.
After the Park Ranger sorta indicated we were more or less being kicked out, we moved the party to Talayna’s, which was naturally tight.
Let’s practice this Saturday, noon-style at Heman Park. Watch for an E-Mail about that, and also fallball, SOON. Maybe TODAY.
