Ice Squid

Last February Sub-a-dub and I visited the ICEHOTEL in Northern Sweden. Whilst there, we carved ice. Since I just got around to uploading those photos, I thought I would share my Ice SQUID.

Perhaps it was Octopus-esque or maybe just blob-of-ice-esque, but ice is a fickle medium and you just have to let it lead the dance. The intent was Squid. Representing the Squids 200km from the Arctic Circle.

Sub-a-dub and I have aspirations to put our newfound skills to use by creating an Ice Luge for a Squid event. If anybody knows somebody that will give me access to a walk-in freezer for a couple of hours, that will seal the deal.

    Tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

Do any places besides like grocery stores and gas stations and some restaurants have walk-in coolers?

Does it take super-long to sculpt, like over the course of a few days, is that why you need the walk-in? I figure if you make it like that day and bring it to the game, it can probably survive a handful of hours outside.

Or, post a thing on THE CIRCUIT maybe? MySpace? Whatever?

That is one hot squid. I also heard a rumor about a hot letter J that came from that same session.

Pancake Master – I have a deep freezer I can make and store the ice in, but you really need to be in a cold place to do the actual carving, which I think would take me 1-2 hours. I wouldn’t make a mess other than, you know, water which is easily cleaned up.

Not a rumor Sub A Dub. That’s a memory. One day I will figure out how to make embedding images in comments possible. For now: http://www.flickr.com/photos/janet/2543163418/
