Squid Games In Review: 05/05/08 & 05/06/08

Monday at Forest Park was a grueling and bitter defeat…for the Boathouse team! There was some question as to whether we’d have to forfeit on account of some latecomer Squids, but Squids ended up wailin’ on ‘em hard. After last week’s rainout, the Squids sure didn’t waste any time embracing their rightful claim to domination. Tom (T-BIZZLE) had some solid grabs and plays, and the game ball went to BEASTOR-X for putting our score over the 300 mark. Final score, 300 – 1, Squids.

NO LESS GLORIOUS were the post-game festivities, in which Squids dominated YET AGAIN at Harry’s Bar & Grill Tenacious Trivia (run by various Squids and Squid-friends) with a score of 94 over 2nd place’s 80 or some weak sauce like that. The steak sandwich comes recommended (and cheap, on Mondays). Former star Squid pitcher SWITCHBLADE even showed up for the festivities. Good job times two on the Monday circuit, Squids.

Yesterday marked the commencement of Tower Grove Black Thorn Squidding, and boy was it every bit as glorious as expected. There was some question as to whether the game would go on, as it was drizzling upon arrival, and a mere three Squids were present at about fifteen minutes to game-time. However, Squids pulled it together like usual and managed to dominate over our friends with the Friendly’s team (The Brewers), who have some pretty slick new jerseys of their own (I almost didn’t recognize them!). Keith (KEES) and Ann (COOLHAND) wailed some cement-solid pitching, the bats were loud across the board, and Angie (MANNY FRESH) had her fair share of fielding glory with a number of hot catches, matched only by the hotness of the pink on her socks, leading to awarding of the game ball to her. Tall-Boy Tuesday was an immediate success (and complete with paper bags).

Post-game activity this night included: hanging out near the fields to polish off a few more tall-boys, going to the Black Thorn for good pizza and free beer, and thereafter proceeding to Mike (HUGOS)’s new place for some hanging out on the roof, further drinking, and hot-hot-hot tub action. Some Squids kicked off their socks and shoes, others went as far as to remove their pants! I’ll protect the identities of these Squids here, but you should know that if you aren’t post-game Squiddin’, you are missin’ out in a major way. See y’all after next week’s games, right?

I was out of town last Saturday and apologize that nobody was at the fields (if you showed up–it was pretty rainy-ish anyway, from what I understand), but this weekend, practice is on in a major way, as will be post-practice rockin’ at the local Mexican eatery. Don’t miss it, because you need practice more than anyone else on the team (yes, you).

I can’t believe I didn’t get a call out for bringing the Tall Boy OR paper bags. You cut me real deep Rob.

Sub a Dub needs a call out for her beat down shed steel bat, as well!

You’re all correct, of course. Tall Boys, Star-Bat, and play-at-the-plate all courtesy of Jessica (SUB A DUB). Play-at-the-plate a joint property of Annie (ANNIE CUPCAKE) and SUB A DUB, naturally.

GEEZUS… the Master can’t shout out to EVERY amazing person. If he could, I’d have gotten one just for being there and being me. (By the way… hot tubbing with squids is my new favorite past time.)

Thank you, Michele (JOSECANYOUSING?). If I could (remember to) shout out to everyone that deserved it, I’d be shouting out to everyone, every time, and these danged blarg entries would never, ever, ever end. What you Squids can do from here on out is exercise a little imagination to that end–just imagine that I’ve shouted out to you, and every other Squid, every single time, because in my own mind, I am doing that.

Still, I admit, Jessica probably deserved a shout-out or two, and I gave it to her accordingly.

Do we think the steel bat is Forest Park legal?

The best way to find that out is to ask the ump, really. I bet it is, though! I mean, I hope it is. It’d be a shame if it wasn’t. I assume you’re talking about Star-Bat (it’s official name)? Not to be confused with the Powercell, Bombat, Smoke, Freak, or any of those others.

Pancake Master, I’m just joshin’ ya!
Woah, there was hot tubbing? Why do I always have things to do after Squidball?!

    Most definitely hot-tubbing occurred.

I always have things to do after Squidball, too–it’s called HANGING OUT WITH THE SQUIDS! Wocka wocka.
